Last week A4DD made public comments at the FDA Summit entitled: New Era of Smarter Food Safety Summit on E-Commerce: Ensuring the Safety of Foods Ordered Online and Delivered Directly to Consumers.
In his comments, Executive Director Peter Schlactus addressed the issue of “safe food delivery” from the perspective of the delivery driver. Speaking via webinar to over 8,000 stakeholders in 52 countries, Peter: (1) stressed the reality that many delivery drivers are independent contractors and not employees, (2) cautioned that speedy delivery should not be at the expense of jeopardizing the safety of the driver and others, and (3) offered to work with the FDA in establishing guidelines for safe food delivery.
